The inspiration for Osoro came from the evolving views on life and the need for practical solutions in daily life. From the dinner table to refrigeration and storage, Osoro introduces new ideas that could revolutionize our food lifestyle. The design is a testament to the wonders of the Open Tableware System.
Osoro's uniqueness lies in its innovative combination of high-grade vitrified porcelain's quality and typical ivory-colored glossy skin with functionality suitable for preserving food in the refrigerator or freezer and cooking with a steam oven or microwave. The simple, modular shape of its various elements can be stacked to save space, flexibly combined, and sealed with a multi-colored silicone O-Sealer or O-Connector to keep food well preserved. Osoro can be universally used, eliminating the need for multiple utensils in our daily life.
The realization of Osoro's design involved the use of vitrified porcelain, simple modular shapes, and high-quality platinum silicone with no scent or color transfer. The stackable design is not only practical but also aesthetically pleasing. The silicone covers, O-Sealer, and O-Connector, contribute to a steam sealing system, creating beautiful equipment with high functionality.
Osoro was developed over two years, starting in May 2010 in Tokyo, Japan. It was introduced to the market at the Interior Lifestyle Show Tokyo 2012 and was marketed in Japan in September 2012. All items were marketed in March 2013. Osoro was exhibited in rooms27 in Tokyo in September 2013.
Research for the design of Osoro involved internet research of 17,000 housewives in Japan to determine the most useful size of dishes and bowls for daily food life. Group interviews with 30 housewives and single ladies, aged in their 30s and early 40s, revealed the necessary function for dishes and the need for glossy skin and functionality for cooking and preserving food, dishwashing, and stacking.
Osoro overcame the challenge of controlling the degree of shrinkage during firing in the kiln. By controlling the shrinking degree to plus or minus 1% or less, Osoro achieved a minimum tolerance of size and was shaped with a straight wall and edge, as well as stacking capability. In addition to this, a glossy surface by frit graze and its functionality for heat resistance and durability were given by the newly developed raw material called NARUMIO, developed specifically for Osoro.
Osoro's innovative design and functionality earned it the Platinum A' Design Award in 2014. This award recognizes world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that showcase unmatched professionalism, genius, and contribute to societal wellbeing. Osoro's design is indeed a defining aesthetic of our era, advancing the boundaries of art, science, design, and technology, and making the world a better place.
